All about... Capybaras!

What do they look like?

Capaybaras look alot like a coconut, thats where they get their nickname Coconut dogs. They have short tanish brownish hair. They have short blunts snouts, short legs, very small ears, and almost no tail. No tail seems so odd for a rodent, but it works for them! They can range from 40-50 inches once full grown and weigh 60 to 175 pounds! Females are usually a little larger than the males.(Picture Below)

Where do they live?

Living near water is a necessity for capybaras. They have very dry skin and need the water to keep it moist. They are usually found in Central and South America. They will sometimes sleep in water or mud to keep them cool and to hide from predators.

Living

Capybaras are very sociable animals. A regular group of capybaras is usually 10 of them, but during the dry season it can reach up to 100! All of them in the group being led by one male. The amount of capybaras in the world right now is unknown.
